UPFRONT FEES
1. Searching
(i) The cost to conduct an exact search of the Australian Trade Marks Office Records for a word mark is approximately $800 plus GST and disbursements.
(ii) The cost to conduct a full use and registrability search of the Trade Marks Office Records for a word mark is from $1800 plus GST and disbursements.
(iii) The cost for a logo/graphics or device searches depends on the nature of the device.
(iv) Common law searches are usually in excess of $2700 plus GST and disbursements.
2. Application
The cost for preparing and filing a trade mark application in a single class is $1100 plus GST. (This includes the online official fee of $400, which includes the previous registration fee). The cost for each additional class is $900 plus GST. (This includes the online official fee of $400, which includes the previous registration fee).

3. Examination
I charge on a time basis for examination of trade mark applications. My charge out rate is $400.00 per hour plus GST. However, for a usual trade mark, where there are no unforeseen difficulties on examination, the examination costs are around $900 plus GST and disbursements.
4. Registration
The registration cost for one trade mark irrespective of the number of classes, as there are no official fees is $500 plus GST.
TOTAL FEES
The total cost of obtaining registration of a trade mark in a single class in Australia is approximately $3000 plus GST and disbursements. Typically, this cost is incurred over a one-year time frame.
UPKEEPING FEES
5. Renewal
Trade mark registrations can continue indefinitely but must be renewed by payment of a renewal fee. The initial registration lasts for 10 years and this can be renewed for further 10 year periods. Currently, the costs for renewal of a trade mark registration in one class is $950 plus GST (this includes the online official fee of $400) with each additional class being $750 plus GST (this includes the online official fee of $400).
These costs are in Australian dollars and are for Australian clients, who are required to pay GST on service charges.
